The stage is set for a milestone event in Nigerian grassroots football as the Mike Okonkwo Football Championship (MOFC) gears up for its highly anticipated 20th edition. The draws for this prestigious tournament will take place on June 1st, 2025, inside the Cathedral of His Glory at TREM International Headquarters in Obanikoro, Lagos.

This year’s MOFC is extra special—it not only celebrates two decades of grassroots football development but also marks the 80th birthday of the tournament’s patron, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, the esteemed Presiding Bishop of TREM.

According to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor, this year’s draws promise to be more than just a formality. It will be a grand gathering of football administrators, enthusiasts, and players from across the nation. The theme of the draw event, “Grassroot Football as Catalyst to Nation Building”, underscores the championship’s commitment to using football as a vehicle for youth development, community engagement, and national unity.

The 2025 edition will feature 36 male teams and, for the growing women’s game, 8 female teams—affirming MOFC’s inclusive spirit and its dedication to fostering opportunities for all aspiring footballers.

Over the years, the MOFC has become a breeding ground for talented players, some of whom have gone on to play professionally at home and abroad. The upcoming edition promises to be no different, as teams prepare to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted trophy.

As the countdown begins, all eyes will be on the Cathedral of His Glory in Lagos on June 1st, when the draws will determine the matchups and set the stage for another exciting chapter in the championship’s illustrious history.
